Unless of course they need him to pitch to actually MAKE it to that game. Usually pretty tight for that second wild card spot.

Yeah, But in September, you can throw matchups for half the game. You can give every left hander a lefty after the fourth.

Leveraged innings. down to leveraged at bats. There is a theory that having someone that is guaranteed to get three or four folks out every other day has leveraged value. Especially when you can have a 20 man bullpen.

I'm just a simple man, but 7 x 12 = 84. Miller pitched 20 innings. For 20 > 84 he'd have to have a leverage index of like 3 or more, assuming his raw numbers were already better. That's basically saving Miller for only situations where there's two on, none out, and the tying run is on second.
