I don't know. I know Toronto out bid us with Jimmy Cordero and Alberto Tirado.

Cordero has been in double A in May. He has pitched 50 outings this season, all out of relief. He has a 2.70 ERA in 32 games at double A. He has struck out 46 batters and walked 20. He throws a blazing fastball, which has registered at 103 MPH.

Tirado, 20, is also a relief pitcher. He had a 3.23 ERA in 31 appearances in high-A. He has struck out 61 batters in 61.1 innings. He throws a mid-90s fastball with a slider and changeup.

Makes no sense to me. Garcia has to be on the roster I guess and Givens has options, but Givens has been terrific and Garcia's numbers don't look promising. I don't get it.

It's the Rule V obsession Roy.

Last four years they have made a Rule V selection and that selection has ended up in the organization.

Almanzar was traded for. He was not a real rule five player. He was sent back after looking at him while on DL and rehab. So he does not count as a bad thing. He was a view and select option for us.

Bizarre, I understand the desire to keep Garcia, but trying to get in the playoffs has to supercede that, and Givens seems to be give them a better chance - even if it isn't by a lot.

I watched them both at Bowie. They were both good and dominant.

Duquette never lets go of his Rule 5 picks unless he's forced to at gunpoint.

Anyone remember Michael Almanzar?

Me either. We were so high on him though that we got him 2013, gave him back to the Red Sox during the season, then later traded for him again that August!

How many days does Garcia need to be on the roster ? Shame about Givens but he will be back real soon ....

Garcia has to be recalled on Saturday. Today plus travel time. So it did not matter how many more days he needed to be with the club. He is an Orioles now.

All the rule 5 guys are here at once. Flaherty(2012), Mac(2013), Garcia(2015). Almanzar doesn't count because we gave him back. lol. I'll be rooting for Garcia. I like him. Just now Givens has to be in the minors for 10 days before he can be recalled, and I'm not rooting for injuries to bring him back. I think this has more to do with keeping a "long" guy up here. Mac will go once it's time to bring Wilson back up.
