I don't understand the hoopla about losing Dylan Bundy

Britt states again that if Bundy does not make the team out for ST he has to be exposed to waivers. Anyone every heard of the Disabled List? If Bundy is healthy he should be a boost the the O's pen.

If he is not healthy he will be on the DL. He can go get healthy at Sarasota. That can be a few weeks or the whole season. When he is healthy he can rehab for a month in the minors. If at any time he feels pain he can start the process over again. Somebody like Bundy that has a world of talent when healthy does not have to worry about waivers. He just has to worry about getting healthy and staying that way.

If you can keep Jason Garcia, you can keep Dylan Bundy.

It's a bit ironic that folks justify dealing Jake in another thread when he was "out of options", but in another thread someone suggests it's not a problem that a player could be injured and/or unproductive plus out of options.

Being "out of options", limits our options - especially if Bundy is - not discussed above - healthy and UNPRODUCTIVE during Spring Training. Are we to carry him on the Opening Day roster in the bullpen if not productive initially - since of course we can't put him in the minors to get things together? What if Bundy is healthy and pitching well into June and then tires and becomes unproductive? Are we to carry him then? What if we are competitive - as was perceived at the time we sold off Jake?

The hoopla is very simple - we have a very high draft pick with limited options and that could lead to a lack of patience and mistakes by our, or any, front office.

I agree. Good post. We'll keep him though. Jake cost us many many games before we gave up on him. Many.

There is no such thing as health and unproductive for a player that has missed as much time as Bundy has with a shoulder injury. If he is unproductive he will be deemed to have a weakness in the shoulder and put of the DL. The O's do it all the time.

I'm not aware of many instances of top organizational and mlb prospects being healthy and unproductive and out of options who are placed on the DL - yet you say it happens all the time. Interesting.

It doesn't have to be a top prospect. Its roster management.

Jason Garcia was placed on the DL because he couldn't throw harder than 92mph. There are many pitchers that wish they could throw 92.

Wesley Wright couldn't fit on the roster so the was DL'd for half season. I'm not sure he was even hurt.

Last year, Francisco Peguero was DL'd because there was not a roster spot for him.

In each case the Orioles said they were injured as they would for Bundy, but its pretty questionable at times and seems more convenient then anything else. Its should be really easy to DL Bundy because he has had shoulder problems for most of this season. Shoulder problems are hard to disprove and often reoccur. All he has to say is he has discomfort. And if he is not throwing well (unproductive) he is bound to think something is wrong with him.

How many games would he have cost us if we sent him to Norfolk like we could have?

I was referring to the games that he single handedly lost for us after basing two rotations and two opening day starts on him. He was supposed to be a major league pitcher. As a pitcher for us, he cost us as many games over several years as Ubaldo did last year before the demotion and as Bud did this year. Just like that.
