They have a lot of interesting decisions to make, and considering their excellent group of free agents (Chris Davis, Wei-Yin Chen, Matt Wieters, Darren O'Day), one rival GM opined, "They may have more holes to fill than anyone." ... Another GM thought it would be a big risk to give Wieters the $15.8-million qualifying offer, as Wieters could become the first player to take it. Agent Scott Boras is generally opposed to accepting one-year deals for talented free agents, but that's a big number for the year he had (and also for Baltimore), and perhaps Wieters believes he can enhance his value by putting together big year as a healthier player in Camden Yard, an excellent hitters park. Sometimes, Boras espouses what he calls a "pillow" contract, a short deal that designed as a soft landing for the player.

If the Orioles offer Wieters $15.8, they are truly insane

Wieters should be offered a QO as been mentioned here at nuaseum.

Here why

1) he is not going to accept it

2) no player has ever accepted it to this point

3) he is a client of Scott Boras

4) Scott Boras detests the QO system and designation.

5) Wieters is going to get 4 years for 12-16 million per from somebody, likely Atlanta who won't lose their 1st rounder since it's protected

6). Pretty fair chance he will be worth it on a one year deal now that he is another year removed from surgery.

Heyman

Heard someone on the radio say yesterday that they routinely have lunch with Peter, and although they would not divulge Mr. Angelos' private thoughts, he did say that the Orioles are very well aware that allowing all of their free agents to leave after doing the same with Cruz and Kakes last year would not sit well with the fans. Not sure that matters in the end, but hopefully the Orioles do SOMETHING this offseason to make this team better. As you all know, I'm not a fan of signing the highest guys for the sake of signing the highest guys, but we should have about 40 million to spend this offseason, and I would think we should be able to fill a lot of holes with solid contributors for that amount of cash.

Another offseason of Quad A players is gonna result in a lot of empty seats in Camden Yards next summer.

FWIW the phrase is "ad nauseum". It's latin.

Carry on.
