Note: The "big-buck lawsuit" is not settled yet.

2. Chris Davis, 1B-RF

The slugger who's hit 45-plus home runs two of the last three years goes into free agency with a bang. It doesn't hurt that he can play first base well, right field adequately and third base and left field passably. He's been connected to the Mariners, Red Sox, Blue Jays and Cardinals. But the Orioles, which just won a big-buck lawsuit, probably need to do what they can to keep him. One caveat: If he stays, he probably still gets less. $182M, 7 years.

Hard to see how this Boras statement increases Chen's market value. It suggests "Good pitcher, but maybe not so good organization wise." Nice job, Scott! Or maybe it is a just a message to the Orioles "Fugeddaboutit!"

I think we forgot about it months ago. Thanks for the 4 years of great value, but good luck with your new team

That's how I see it, also.

It was a move that allowed Chen to avoid taking a potential beating from the Blue Jays, a team that he has horrible career numbers against. Simultaneously, it allowed the Orioles to bring up an extra position player for that short period of time (June 16th - June 25th.)

All this says (to me) is that Chen still has a stick up his ass about something that occurred 5 months ago ...... something that very well may have benefited Chen, anyway.

Not exactly a good way to market your client as a team player.

Boras is feuding with the Marlins.

I love what the President of the team said:

“My strong suggestion to Mr. Boras is that instead of resting on his 5 percent that he collects from his stable of players, he write a check and buy a team. Then he would have the opportunity to run a team that he claims to be so able to do. Until that time, he is in no position to comment how any Major League Baseball team is operated.”

Why would Boras want to buy a team when he probably makes more money that most owners. Certainly more than any MLB GM. Imagine 5% of every Boras client's salary per year. Mind boggling.

I read this as "Your breach of protocol and honor has shamed us to the tune of $2M a year. Please adjust any contract demands based solely on expected performance and value to the Orioles organization accordingly."
