Connolly rates Chen returning to the Orioles at 1 out of 10

To save him the beating he would have suffered at the hands of the Blue Jays.

The concept is simple, accumulate enough marginal advantages and it eventually leads to a win.

If you think the O's sending Chen down for a couple days has an impact on if he signs with the team I don't know what to tell you.

Oh wait, I do know.

You are wrong, he is going to rate many things, things such as monetary compensation, taxes, location, odds of personal and team success way before being optioned for a couple of days.

If he was offended by it the front office didn't do nearly what they could have to sell him on the idea. He never even left Baltimore, right? He was just sitting in the clubhouse, watching the game on a day between starts. It was a procedural move that in no way reflected his status or ability and it wasn't even one of those Hardy ploys to limit service time.

I wonder if he was more offended or embarrassed. It may have been a cultural issue, explaining to family and friends in the east why he had been demoted.

All compensation picks are between the first and second rounds. Teams pick in reverse order of finish. So, if the Orioles have three players with QOs who sign with other teams, we will get three picks in a row.

Teams that sign a player who has turned down a QO will give up their first round pick unless they finished with one of the 10 overall worst records. For those teams, the first round picks are protected.

Whether a team that signs a player gives up a first or second round player (or another, if they sign several players), the team that lost the player will pick in the compensation round described in the first paragraph. In other words, the O's compensation draft slots will not be impacted by which team signs the players.

So the forfeited picks drop out of the 1st round?

The forfeited pick is not in the first round if either of these is true:

- You've already forfeited your first round pick

- You finished with one of the 10 worst records in mlb

But no matter what pick is forfeited, the compensation always comes after the first round. This might make it clearer.

It is essentially part of the first round. Yes. Because the forfeited picks move them to the end of a natural first round. The Phillies would hypothetically have two natural first round picks if they were to lose one. And if there are 15 players with QO's signed? It is at least four other teams moving into nature.

I look forward to our picks this year. I think it will be great to concentrate of a draft class.

O's had 4 picks in top 100 in 2013. No one has played a major league game

Only 2players drafted in 2012 have played a major league game

You can go through the Orioles draft picks and not find much success. Understatement. For a small market, low revenue team without a wealthy owner and a RSN that has anything more than public access ratings, drafting should be in the team's number 1 priority. Drafting should be where the Orioles make their living. the team cannot be successful if they merely draft as well as their competitors, since many of their competitors can pay free market prices for players. The Orioles do not with any regularity pay market prices. Chen was a steal. A great business decision. The player over performed. Now, he will walk, squeezed dry by his team.

Where's the draft success?

Boy, I have seen the light!

Of course a draft full of HS kids should be paying off dividends at the ML level within two years.
