They also put together hits, whereas the O's scatter them. You may score the same amount of runs and win more games if you can have more big innings. It makes your pitching more effective pitching with bigger leads.

I think it is dangerous to fall in love with the style of some other team that recently had some success. We won 96 games in 2014 playing our style of baseball. There is no one size fits all strategy in MLB. I don't think KC's style of offense is particularly well suited to winning close games, any more than ours is. But they did happen to have a good record in one-run games (23-17), just as we did in 2014 (32-23).

I think last year's Royals were better than us in all aspects -- they scored more runs, had a better starters' ERA, better relievers' ERA, and had a better defense.
