Nice picture.

Of the 7 World Series that Ruth won in his career, 3 were with the Red Sox, and 4 with the Yankees.

Every year we talk about the Yankees decline and it never really happens. I know the saying about insanity, but I think this is the year where they really struggle.

I don't think their bullpen is better. Their back three are phenomenal (if Manfred doesn't give Chapman 50 games), but overall they lose a lot of innings from Warren and Wilson who were excellent last season.

Does Girardi have the stones to bench Ellsbury and his $100M+ contract for Hicks, or does he keep his sub .700 bat in the lineup?

I think that there is a difference between "decline" and "collapse."

The Yankees collapsed in 1989, after having had 6 consecutive winnings seasons from 1983-1988. They proceeded to have 4 consecutive losing seasons from 1989 through 1992 before George Steinbrenner was kicked out of baseball for two years, which allowed Gene Michael and Buck Showalter to rebuild the franchise back into contenders.

The Yankees went 85-77 in 2013, 84-78 in 2014, and 87-75 in 2015. They did not make the postseason in 2 out of 3 of those seasons, and they got KO'd in 1 game by the Astros in the one season in which they did make the playoffs. Subsequently, I think that an argument can be made that the Yankees have been declining already. The question is, will that decline continue in 2016 ???
