April 8: O's vs. Rangers

Doubtful, but his back must still really be bothering him. Trembley has already announced Moore is starting at second on Thursday and now taking him out for the 9th inning?

I don't understand this whole panic thing of Brian not playing the final inning. We were so far ahead by that point that it really didn't matter if he was there or not and Brandon plays defense pretty well so the position was covered fine. Other teams pull a starter or two if they have a huge lead in a game so I have no problem if Trembley does that every so often for his starters. *shrugs*

Great win today!! :D

It's a goofy rule, but that's how they do it. The only goofy rules in baseball are the record-keeping ones.

Personally, I wish they would divvy it up by bases, but they do it all-or-nothing based on who let the guy get on base to begin with.

Well, administratively it's simpler I guess. Even though it isn't always an accurate representation.

Of course they do. It doesn't matter that the runner was on first when Albers came in. The fact is, if there was no one on first and you look at what Albers did, no one would have scored. So, why should Albers be charged with the run? If you change the rule, it jobs the other guy and involves too much judgement.

While interviewing Scott Moore, they showed the highlight of Luke Scott's dinger. oops!

One of these guys needs to change his name ;-)

Funny how everybody can cope with multiple Hernandez's but not Scott's.

Maybe the first-name/last-name thing messes people up more...

The run also wouldn't have scored if Albers didn't give up 2 hits (or whatever). The rule is what it is though. No sense worrying about it.

I don't think Albers should get charged for the run. I think he should get charged with .75 of the run because he let him get .75 of the way around, and Burres should get the other .25 for letting him have the first base. It doesn't require any judgment, it's just counting up bases, thats all...

Doesn't really matter, they're not gonna do it. I just bugs me a little when the record-keeping rules are goofy, because the actual on-the-field rules are perfect.

I like the idea of charging partial runs, although I don't think it should be .25 to Burres and .75 to Albers, you've gotta weigh it more heavily toward the guy that let the runner on base and for how many outs there were when the guy reached base. Base it on the likelihood of a runner scoring from first, second, or third with zero, one, or two outs compared to the likelihood of a run scoring if that base was unoccupied.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if there is some metric out there that already does this, I've just never seen it.

Alright guys, here are the highlights. They are a little long, but I left in the Huff HR controversy and the postgame interview with whichever Scott that was :)

Hi guys, and greetings from Texas, where I have resided for four years after relocating from Delaware. (hence the username:o) Long time lurker of this board, figured now would be the best time to join in on the fun. I didn't realize that this was the only month the O's were in Texas, so I was pretty much scrambling to get tickets to this series. I'm glad I was able to go to this game. It was kind of nice to be able to wear my O's hat in pride again.

man, 22 more runs and we could have exacted our revenge! Oh well...

Anyway, looking forward to tomorrow's game. Trax on the mound, and it's dollar hot dog day at the park! I'm going to enjoy this for as long as I can.

Let's Go, O's!!!

    • HEY YANKEES! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnxNRPy_SOA
    • Yeah I'm all for sportsmanship but seeing 'Congratulations Yankees' at or near the top of the board is sickening, not gonna lie.  There is no high road when it comes to these clowns.  Boone's constant whining, the well-documented HP ump favoritism (I don't care if its framing or whatever, its happening, and its annoying AF), the whining about Judge getting hit on the hand while their guys constantly pitch inside including of course the Kjerstad play where they were literally cutting up on the bench as he lay prone on home plate, the ginormous payroll, the incredibly entitled fan base booing at pitches being called balls that are three inches off the plate, that stupid roll call, that stupid whistle after strikeouts, the stupid national media drooling over a Judge v Ohtani WS possibility, Nestor Cortes and his dumb mustache, the mediocre stadium that is revered simply because its called Yankee Stadium, the ridiculously short RF porch, the Soto Shuffle or whatever the hell it is. Congratulations my ass.  Screw those dudes.
    • Here's the deal. I doubt anyone on the Yankee's board congradulated us last year. This year they won the East. Whippie for them. It's like saying the IRS won tax season. IF, we do anything in the playoffs, we may meet again. But there are some significant hurdles before that. And they could easily lose along the way. Cleveland, Houston, Detroit, and KC are no walk in the park. I'll root for the O's to go as far as they can and that the Yankees are one and done. We are in. I hope we win one more so we play the opening round in Oriole Park. If not, we are still in and have to do what we got to do to go anywhere. Two years in a row. While the Red Sox, Blue Jays, and Tampa sleep. Year two with a heck of a lot more obstacles. This may not be a WS year but we are competitive, young, and a hell of a lot classier than that bunch in the Bronx.
    • The usage of Cano last night was poor, I don't even blame him really.  Yankees had 9-1-2 coming up, and Torres is well known (based on the telecast) to hit Cano well, and hit sinkers well.  He laced that hit to RF off him on Tuesday where the Yanks screwed up the baserunning.  And Soto got a hit off him that same inning.  So it was pretty predictable that these guys were going to tee off when he came in, and that's exactly what happened. Not to mention he's pitched a lot recently, and Burnes should have pitched another inning anyway.  Just baffling decisions by Hyde last night, and I'm not one to generally question those types of things.  Even if the Burnes thing was pre-ordained, the choice of Cano for that moment was terrible.
    • Why is this thread on the Oriole Talk section.    It probably does not belong on the OriolesHangout  at all but if it stays it should be on the MLB section.
    • If there's two outs and its not Judge in the hole, I'm probably going with Perez, crossing my fingers he gets the lefty, and then starting fresh the next inning with Coulombe or someone else.  If there's one out, I'm going w/ Coulombe.
