The Orioles should trade for Ben Revere

Ben Revere will soon be expendable. The Orioles should trade a bullpen arm to Washington and maybe one other player. The Orioles offense would be absolutely out standing if the Orioles can get Ben Revere.

I agree he's a great fit, but I'm not sure the Nats would deal him. I know the thought is to put Cespedes in CF, but I'm not convinced he's good enough to play there full time as the Plan A option. The Nat's defense up the middle is suspect enough with Murphy at 2B.

I think the better option would be an OF of Cespedes, Revere and Harper and have Werth rotate around with Cespedes and Revere, you can have Cespedes play CF some in that rotation. Another interesting idea: can Werth play 1B? Between he and Zimmerman, you may get 150 healthy games.

IF (and to me, that's a significant 'if') he's available, the Orioles should make a play.

How does adding a player with an 88 career OPS+ improve the offense?

If you're going to intentionally ignore his most valuable offense trait, then I guess he doesn't help much. However, if you want to look at last year's 98wRC+ and 31 SBs on an 81.6% success rate and you have a fairly valuable player.

When you best argument is a one year sample of a 98wRC+ your argument might be in trouble.

You are admitting that in his best year he is below league average and that is using your choice of stat. (Which is a solid choice.)

The Nationals might not want to trade him but if we offer them a decent bullpen arm and one other player I would think that would get the deal done.

But. We don't want him. We don't want him with his walks. We don't want his clubhouse talks. We don't want his fancy steals. We don't want those aging wheels. We do not need him Sir or Ma'am. We would not use him Fan I am.

Good post. But what's the salary difference?

Revere avoided arbitration by agreeing to $6.25 mil for the year with the Nationals.

Jackson I imagine would not cost much more than that. Plus the team won't have to trade anyone to get him.

I would prefer Revere over Jackson all things being equal, but agree, what's the point of trading for Revere if Jackson is on the market?

Agreed. It's worth noting that Revere is trending in the right direction and is entering his prime. And he's a lefty. But let's wait until after Washington supposedly signs Cespedes to worry about Revere, shall we?

Only thing about Jackson is that I'm sure he wouldn't want to take a short term deal to come play a COF spot. Even if it was for a contender that could offer lineup protection in a hitter's park. He's probably just going to take a deal with whoever offers him a CF job. The guy could put up some serious numbers hitting in front of Machado, Jones, and Davis.
