Orioles signed INF Aderlin Rodriguez to a minor league contract.

Rodriguez, 24, slashed .234/.277/.409 with 13 homers and 50 RBI in 107 contests at Double-A between the Mets and Mariners in 2015. He adds organizational depth for the O's.

This kid seems to have potential. I feel like we don't have much 3B depth behind Manny in the organization. Right now we have Jomar Reyes and Drew Dosch. I like the add and im excited to see if he produces well for us.

TeamSchop6, I have to ask. How old are you? That sounds like something I naively would have said about Tim Nordbrook or Dyar Miller or Taylor Duncan a long time ago.

Some folks prefer to have a more positive outlook on possibilities. Those folks are welcome here too.

Me too. Mike Almanzar has shown glimpses of exceptional talent and also poor production so there is that. He's a real strong dude.

Ive seen Almanzar play multiple times and youre right, he has the tools but for some reason he isnt constant. Maybe we found a decent player in Aderlin. Never know, i like to keep a positive outlook on players we add

What makes you think he has potential?

It's fair to denigrate the players when their performance is not in line with a career path that shouts MLB. But sometimes guys beat the scouting projections. Trey Mancini appears to be one of those guys. Josh Hader too.

He's organizational filler. A non prospect. He has a career .723 OPS in the minors. He had a .685 OPS in AA last year. His career fielding percentage at 3B is .889.

Last year he played more games at 1B than 3B. No, he's not a candidate to replace Manny one day. He's not even a candidate to replace Michael Almanzar at Norfolk.

Spot on but these types of guys help Bowie and Norfolk make the playoffs. But with small slivers of hope that they turn into something. Almanzar was a rule 5 pick by us and Rodriguez just played in the AFL 2 seasons ago. "Arod" is basically in the same position that Drew Dosch is in, and Dosch was in our top 30 prospects last season.

Almanzar stinks. Aderlin is worse than Almanzar. Neither will have a career in MLB.

Ha! Refreshing post. Serious question: I watch a decent amount of Norfolk games and for the life of me don't understand what they saw in Almanazar. Do you know?

Weams: I know you like him, do they just like his frame?

Was I rude, mean, or make him feel unwelcome. Positive and off the charts unrealistic are two different things.

You called him a child and he was not, please allow other to have their own opinions.

And yes, you are probably right that he is filler. My soap box is that the new poster be allowed to talk without being ridiculed.

    • Holy cow dude. Do you have to mention Quintana in every post you make?
    • I think we already have #5 type guys.   We should be aiming higher.
    • Sorry to derail the thread. I was having a crap day yesterday when I took it out here. I appreciate the words of support.
    • I like this idea.  Maybe he's not ALWAYS the closer, but he has the stuff to be a very good high-leverage guy.
    • Bucce is one of those guys that finally hit a little bit last year, but didn't get a ton of playing time overall and 20Ks in just 74 PA gives me pause when it doesn't come with any real power. He'll have to make Delmarva next year and we'll see how he does. Anderson DeLos Santos is still a bit interesting and I actually wrote up a quick bio for him before I knocked him off the list: Only 19-years old last season at Delmarva, Del Los Santos didn’t put up all that impressive of numbers including a 104-31 K-BB ratio in 421 PAs. But he has a little pop in the bat and although he made a few too many errors, shows some athleticism at 3B. Probably will need to repeat Delmarva next year at 20-years old but has some tools to work from and worth keeping an eye on. Same thing with Heid: Put up good numbers at AA holding batters to a .185/.280/.265/.545 slash line mostly at Aberdeen. Got a late season callup to Bowie but at 25 years old, he's long in the tooth for a prospect. He's a 91-93 MPH guy with so decent carry and his slider flashes average on occasion wit good depth. The stuff just doesn't suggest he's going to have success at the major league level though. I also did Kade Strowd who got bumped at the end. Kade Strowd: Fastball slider pitcher that sat 94-96 but who can flash 97-98 on occasion. The slider has high spin and late break and can give minor league right-handed hitters fits, but he doesn't have much to defend himself against lefties and his command wavers too often. As for Heid, the stats say he's worth watching, but the age and stuff go "eh". Can't rule him out, but I didn't see anything that suggested major league stuff.
    • Robertson on a 1yr/10mil deal seems about the most we can afford. If that’s all we have to spend then I hope we trade for Quintana and put Wells at closer.
    • Elias has said he would like someone with closers experience. Not really sure why that matters. I also think they only want a one year option at closer. I get that they expressed interest in Hader, if that’s true, but that really means nothing with this team.
