Withe Padres going into rebuild mode, I could see this happening. What do you think it will take to get Cashner from Padres?

With the trade Of Alonso, perhaps Mancini and Wright gets it done?

I think that would work Tony. I am intrigued by Cashner's high K rate. Although I am intrigured by Mancini, any trade that keeps Reyes, Sisco, Gausman, Harvey, and Bundy for Cashner works for me.

I could definitely see us going hard after Cashner, but I don't see us giving up Mancini for one year of Cashner, who is coming off a down year.

He was reporting from Roch's blog.

Keep an eye on the Padres' Andrew Cashner, a free agent after this season who interests the Orioles. He slipped to 6-16 with a 4.34 ERA and 1.440 WHIP in 31 starts last season after going 5-7 with a 2.55 ERA, 1.127 WHIP and two shutouts in 19 starts in 2014.

It still seems more realistic that the Orioles acquire a starter via trade, as long as teams stop asking for Kevin Gausman. However, Mat Latos remains unsigned and could be a one-year bounceback candidate.

With Davis practically entrenched at 1b, do the Orioles see Mancini as a DH, or trade bait?

Yes, he can DH. Davis will get injured some time in the next 7 years. Or maybe Davis is the one who is traded. If Mancini is traded, we should not accept less than full value for him just because he is blocked by Davis. At some point in time, Mancini could get us a much better player than Cashner, and in the meantime he can DH as soon as Trumbo is gone.
