What's the deal with Duquette and these rumors? (False rumors)

Do you ever get sick of hearing that one team or another is courting DD?

First we had Toronto, which drug out for months. (And turned out to be true.)

Now we have this Nationals rumor floating around...

It reminds me of the hot girl who's dating a kind of dorky guy (ahem)... and everyone's just waiting for him to catch her in flagrante with the star quarterback.

Any insight on why this seems to be happening when DD is under contract for two more years? Is he giving off some kind of vibe? Is he hoping to leave Baltimore early for some reason?

Does he still want more power at the Warehouse? If so, I say we should probably give it to him, let him groom a successor... and be done with it!

He may be giving out a vibe but he is also an intelligent baseball man. Him being out of baseball for so long surprises me more than other teams courting him. Perhaps he is more valuable than the O's fans know...

That rumor yesterday got shot down right away. I don't put any credence in it and don't think it means anything.

I hope not and you're probably right. But still... you start wondering. Do other GM's get this much unsolicited attention? Do other organizations see the Orioles as somehow second-tier, and feel emboldened to make overtures, either directly or via the media? It's just weird... and it makes me edgy.

What would you say the chances of him being lured away before 2018 are... and how about the chances of him re-upping here? It almost feels like a foregone conclusion that he'll head for the hills when his contract expires. Not sure why I feel that way, but...

No doubt he's an intelligent baseball man. It's so weird how a guy like DD could have sat on the shelf that long, unless it was self-imposed.

I just find it irritating that this storyline has been going on for years now (even if DD did squash the latest rumor quickly).

Only the GMs that took perpetual losers and have won with them during their tenure. I would think he is done after 2018 - Yeah.

Maybe so but it will depend on the situation he's in. He might like it here and want to stay. A lot can happen in 2 years.

If the Orioles continue to do well ...... and especially if they make it to a World Series or 2 over the next 3 years ...... might be just enough to lure Dan to stay with the Orioles in order to further cement his legacy.

Right now, his is a great story ...... coming to a perennial loser and turning them around after having been booted by a perennial winner (the Red Sox) a decade earlier. That's a REALLY good story. He may want to stay longer if all continues to go well. Remember what he said back in 2012, when the Orioles were finally in contention in the middle of the season in his first year with the team ??? Something along the lines of, "This is personal."

That sounds like a guy who wanted to settle a score, and considering how well things have gone in his 3-plus year tenure with the team so far, I'm not so sure that he would necessarily walk away from it all ...... even if other teams offer him more money.

If DD is such a bad baseball exec and clearly needs to get out of the way for Brady.

Why is it, his name is being link for other teams? :D

Brady has been here forever, and unproven. DD is an amazing GM, and everyone else is peanut butter and jealous

Brady is unproven, doesn't sit well with me.

He has been groomed for years for this possibility, and he gets glowing remarks from those that deal with him.

Brady would be interesting territory, and would be hopefully as good as Duquette, but the inexperience scares me kind of like it did with other posters when Mike Flanagan did in 2006

Good Point, but thanks to Andy, Angelos is a different owner now, then when Mike was here.

Not sure Mike had the proper training/mentoring prior to his being put into place by Jim Beattie prior to his being named the head guy here.

Keep in mind, his #2guy was Jim Duquette, not exactly the same talented guy his cousin is.
