Is it really that hard to find a good fielder ?

Why on earth does Flaherty continue to get a chance to play? He has proved over and over that he doesn't belong in the big leagues. I know he plays a lot of positions but he never does anything at the plate and Buck never pinch hits. What a waste.

Who do we replace him with? Janish?

Flaherty has never hit enough for my tastes. He gets hot every now and then and flashes some power once in awhile, but typically he is a big hole in the lineup.

Im not a GM or coach or scout

But get rid of Flaherty, Janish, Alverez, and Bundy

Go get real MLB players. No more AAAA (4A) players.

Of course I might be an idiot//////

Every year this thread gets stared about Flash. Then someone gets injured, he gets some playing time, gets some key hits then everyone loves him again.

Not me. Count me in the anti-Flash getting more playing time camp. Him playing full time just cannot happen and expect to win a pennant. He should be playing once a week as a utility infielder as he is possibly the worst hitter I have ever seen play full time in an Orioles lineup, including Belanger.

It always hurts us when Hardy is out. He is a big cog when healthy.

The same Belanger that has a career .228 average and several years, batted under the Mendoza line.

As good as the Blade was with his glove, I wonder if he would have played daily in this era.

How many UTIF aren't? If they could hit they would be starters.

Exactly. The thing they get on Flaherty for not hitting but he is a utility infielder and he hits like one. They should instead be getting on Rickard who is a corner outfielder and is hitting like a Utility Infielder.

Belanger career OPS: .580. Flaherty career OPS: .639.

Our offense has really suffered since Hardy got hurt. It's likely not entirely due to him being replaced by Flaherty (Rickard and Jones haven't exactly been lighting it up either) but I think losing Hardy is a big deal.

He got hurt on May 1st so we can essentially examine the monthly splits to see the impact.

O's in April - .796 OPS......averaging 4.7 runs / game

O's in May - .735 OPS......averaging 4.25 runs / game

Hardy was hitting .700 while Flaherty is down to a paltry .491. Hope he turns it around soon I guess since Hardy isn't coming back next week or anything.

    • You always need shuttle guys. Ideally, I would think they’d like to have 2-3 spots they can interchange between 5-6 guys. That allows them to maybe get some younger arms in there, like McDermott and the others we mentioned already.  Bautista, if he is back to his old form, Seranthony, Cano, Soto (who I think may just surprise some people), while Cionel and Akin are not sure things. Either could be moved. They should make some moves there, IMO. Cionel has not really improved as much as I had hoped. Akin has had a very good year. Are they ARB eligible this year?
    • You’re the one who threw Ripken into the discussion.  And I don’t think anyone is necessarily saying that Gunnar will be as good as Ripken.  Cal is 3rd all time in Total Zone Runs for a SS.  But, Cal also proves that you don’t judge a SS solely on how many errors they make.  The years that Cal made 26, 25 and 25 errors, he was +11, +23, +O Rtot.  And  Gunnar is playing a solid SS now by the advanced metrics.
    • Coby's problem is not the SSS at bats, but rather his sample size on defense, both minors and majors. He has no position at this point in his career. He's a DH and not in the lineup today because AS is Dhing. Eloy is on the bench as well. Both are PH options so stay ready.
    • I do not know if there were extenuating circumstances or not.  Could be it's a quieter locker room without the rest of the guys, which would make sense in a concussion situation.  So, maybe I did rush to an unfair conclusion here.  At the time, I felt like it more of a "spring training look" when the starters all leave the field after they're done playing.....so yes, there could be other very reasonable explanations. I'll stand corrected, and retract my conclusion.
    • Message to Coby.....you better learn how to use a glove.
    • Totally agree.  And at no point will some people be able to admit that the shiny, new rookie may be overmatched, and putting him just because hangouters want him in there may not be the best move for team chemistry or results  People need to earn their way when given a chance, and with where we are in the standings, leashes are going to be short.  We're not the White Sox who can afford to play anyone they want because it doesn't matter.
