Would it have been too much to ask for AJ to lay down a bunt last inning?

First and second, NOBODY out, CD and Trumbo up next, two speedy baserunners, top of the TWELFTH inning. Does AJ know how to bunt? It's ok if he doesn't, but if he does then I'm a bitt perplexed. Just advance both runners and hope for a sac fly and bloop single and game over. Station to station baseball can be quite maddening at times.

Im just asking. Are you serious about this comment?

Bunting is absolutely dumb in most instances. With 1 out and a man on second, even in extra innings, I don't think it adds much to win probability.

Bunting early in games is almost always a bad move, IMO.

I think there are two situations in the American League that a bunt is even a reasonable consideration. The numbers just don't support another approach. A sacrifice bunt.

A bunt for a hit against the shift is something I hardily support.

Bunting is dumb.

Well, except in the situation OP thought it was (1st & 2nd in extra innings, no outs, and your two best hitters coming up next).

Or maybe if your Chris Davis and they are so ridiculous with that stupid shift that it is absolutely a free hit if you can get the bunt laid down the third base line.

Or you're a leadoff hitter with some speed and for some reason they're playing really far back and giving you the bunt.

Outside of those things... I'd say I agree with your statement 90% of the time.

If there were no outs and you had just used up Mychal Givens tremendous performance, I'd say that it would be a better than 50% chance that I would support it. Dependent on other situational data.
