Paul Folkemer: Who Should Be The Orioles' Leadoff Hitter?

we love to play lineup manager in OH. :)

Cakes wasn't the idea leadoff hitter, but for this team, it worked. (IMO, I would rather bat him first, then cleanup, like Atlanta is doing).

I like Manny in the 2nd slot, but that usually works better, when the leadoff guy is hitting.

Outside of Manny, the next closest options are Reimold or Kim, and neither seems likely to be in the lineup enough. For all the bellyaching about needing speed at the top of the lineup, it only really is a benefit if you actually get on base, which Rickard hasn't done anywhere near enough leading off.

I remember how many posters wanted Rickard leading off, when the season started.

I don't like Manny batting lead off. It means he usually has the two worst hitter batting in front of him after the first inning. Our best hitter needs to be in a position to drive in runs. If I weren't worried about him becoming HR happy. I'd bat him 4th.

Reimold or Kim are ideal.

I never liked the idea of not only giving Rickard the starting position, but batting him lead off pretty much every.single.game.

It might be time to drop Rickard 9th and platoon Kim and Reimold. Keep Alvarez off the field at all costs. Only use Trumbo in the OF if absolutely necessary. Otherwise we may soon have an opportunity to trade Alvarez so we can call up someone that makes us a better team. I'm talking about an Avery type. No I'm not talking about his bat. But someone with a half a clue defensively and a pinch runner type. Right now this club is full of lumbering DHs. Not a good problem to have if you have to start Alvarez at 3B.

Today I would put Reimold there. I would still like to see Rickard on occasion and Kim against LHPs. I prefer to keep Manny #2 with Davis right behind him so that Manny cannot be intentionally walked.

On most days, my lineup would be Reimold RF, Manny SS, Davis 1B, Trumbo DH, Wieters C, Schoop 2B, Jones CF, Kim LF, Flaherty/Janish 3B
