Future or Go For It This Year?

It appears as though we have a good team, except for our starting pitching. To fix our starting pitching could mean losing the future. Which would you rather do? Mortgage the future for the chance of "this year" or just "hold fast" and keep what little we do have down on the farm for down the road?

Bottom line is, what does the owner believe?

I suspect they will be making a deal for SP.

I think ownership only gets involved if the budget has to go up to accommodate the salary of the acquired players.

Given some of the decisions made this spring, ownership might have already told DD to go "all-in".

PAG isn't get any younger.

If that was the case than I would have expected to hear that they were at least sniffing around Shields.

Thank the baseball gods that O's management failed to land Shields. Shields had another shellacking Monday night; that's two shellackings in a row since he arrived with the White Sox.

His last start with the Padres was also horrific.

If by "go for it," you mean trading some of our scarce farm resources for some meh player who will be a marginal upgrade for two months and then be a free agent, then I'm against it.

I mean trading some of our talent down on the farm to get a player that will be an upgrade over what we have in our starting pitching. If it means he is a FA after, so be it, but it will help us win a few more games.

Do we have any pieces that could bring back Sonny Gray' date=' without including any of our starting position players? I'm not good at gauging what our prospects could/should bring back in a deal.[/quote']

We have pretty mediocre prospects, mostly because we traded away all the good ones in failed bids to "go for it".

What offer could the Orioles make that a dozen teams couldn't beat?
