D.J. Stewart Video

I took some video from the press box of two of D.J. Stewart's at bats last night. Video quality isn't great and going forward I'm going to go into the stands to get a better angle but this is something I plan on doing more of going forward since I work most of the Keys home games. I wanted to do more last night but I need to clear some space on my phone for more video

Crouch is modified but he's still holding his bat lower than I'd like to see.

In the video above, his bat is parallel to the ground or even lower. This means he has to rotate his wrists more in order to get his hands into good position when the bat is in the hitting zone, which adds length to his swing. Compare to this, from his freshman year at FSU:

Here, his bat is about 20 degrees above the parallel with the ground, and you can see the difference in how much quicker his swing is.

“I’m happy where I am right now. I’m happy with the progression that I’m making,” he said. “If it was easy, everybody would be in the big leagues, right?”

It may have seemed like a surprise to some that Stewart was summoned to Frederick. He wasn’t surprised.

“That’s one thing our coaches talk to us about. Always be ready. You’re one call from moving up,” Stewart said. “Prepare yourself as if you’re going to be in the big leagues the next day.”
