Jones is hitting great at leadoff but he should realistically bat lower in the lineup.

I don't understand why Kim isn't hitting leadoff. He sees a ton of pitches and he leads the team in OBP. What am i missing here?

(Why Kim isn't playing everyday is another story altogether)

Doesn't answer all parts of your question, but not worrying about the GODP as much is a nice benefit.

Also, if they're going to shift Kim, I sort of like the potential of jones at 1b to mess with it a bit (not sure if they're still shifting him).

Adam Jones is doing fine at leadoff. Why fix something that ain't broke?

Not that I necessarily advocate Kim for leadoff, but one reason might be to get a little more benefit from Adam's recent power surge.

So far this year Jones has only hit good since batting leadoff. In any other place in the lineup he couldn't hit.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. I don't get to see the games but think AJ is fine in that

roll.

I thought this was a pretty bright move on Buck's part.

Adam was in an unbreakable "hack at anything" habit.

The cure seems to have come from putting him in the 1 hole, and saying "show some discipline, we need base runners".

Adam is the ultimate team guy, so he did what was asked, and it worked.

But maybe he's over his hacking ways for a bit, and the team can slide him down to turn a few of those solo dingers into two and three run shots.

Jones was horrible prior to May 27th (the day that Showalter inserted him into the lead-off spot), and he has been on fire ever since.

It was a calculated risk by Showalter to try to help a badly struggling player, and the risk worked.

Jones WAS BROKEN in the first place, and he has since been fixed ...... hence, it would make very little sense to create another risk and change what's been working.

Yeah... like I said, I'm not advocating Kim for leadoff, nor do I necessarily want to tinker with Jones' position in the order.

I was simply answering the question "why would you consider moving him"?

And the answer of course, would be to get a little more out of his power, if you think he's cured of his hacking problem.

For giggles, I looked at Jones' HR's since the move to the 1 hole.

As you would expect, most are solo, and the ones that aren't are driving in low OBP guys like Janish, Flaherty, etc.

Was a little surprised by Jones' RBI total though... higher than I thought.

You mean, when he was injured and slumping Buck had him hitting elsewhere?

Against righties, no problem. Rickard against lefties? Maybe.

I like the idea of Rickard batting leadoff against lefties. But no way I see Kim batting leadoff against right handers even if he gets his avg up to .350... Just not going to happen.
