So 2 average pitchers just shut our bats down.

In the playoffs we will see better pitching than that. Please say something to cheer me up.

It's two games. We were missing three of our bats.

My gut is that it's just a cold spell considering the O's have traditionally hit Eovaldi and Nova pretty well. I wonder if it's a scenario where these average pitchers are just strong out of the ASB.

Interesting fact:

No team has ever had two poor offensive games back-to-back and then somehow rallied to make the playoffs.

Wait that sounds like something incredibly sarcastic and made up to make a point.

hmmmm

Nothing more to say than has been said. Teams get hot and cold. We can beat any pitcher on a given day. Have you forgotten that we faced Scherzer, Verlander and Price in 2014 and won all three?

Tyler Wilson threw 8 shutout innings against the Sox a few weeks ago. They'll face better pitching than that in the playoffs. Currently we are all scared of the Sox. Chances are the O's will roar back sometime soon and again feel like a fearsome offense.

Ah, it's been more than just two games. Not too long ago, didn't we have like a 6 1/2 lead and were threatening to run away with the east? Now we only have a half game lead?

I double checked you are absolutely right!! Could not believe it. It's over.

Maybe someone could link to the meltdowns at SOSH after the Sox were held to one run or fewer in games started by Drew Smyly (5.64 ERA), Matt Moore (4.33), and Tyler Wilson (5.22, currently in the minors).

This whole series was a loooooooonnnnnngggg term con to get the Yankees to buy at the deadline when they should be selling to keep them bereft of young talent and saddled with expensive, declining veterans forever.

    • The Locked on Orioles podcast was suggesting that there had to be multiple pieces added to the deal for Castillo. Something like Mountcastle, Kjerstad, McDermott, Fabian. I don't know, seems a lot more than I would be willing to trade for Castillo
    • By some defensive metrics, Ryan Mountcastle and 2024 Gold Glove winner Carlos Santana are similar:  https://www.fieldingbible.com/drs-leaderboard/players?position=3 FWIW Luis Castillo's value at Baseball Trade Values has jumped from a negative $30.6 million on November 8, to a negative $6.1 million on November 22, to a positive $5.5 million on December 2 to a positive $2.8 million Monday to a positive $7.7 million Friday evening. The Mariners will continue to monitor Castillo's trade value as the pitching market evolves this offseason. Trade offers should determine Castillo's trade value although his no-trade clause complicates matters.
    • Context matters.  Really I should have made a much longer post incorporating the following image.   The O's are roughly 20th in revenue.  (TBH, I have some questions about that.  I think it might be lower) They're currently 19th in payroll.  Is it really fair to say they're underspending?  (Mind you this chart is a few years older.) There are a lot of people claiming they can spend 200 a year on salary.  Maybe.  But it's fair to say team's with similar revenues don't do that.
    • This is true, but the problem remains if you sign some guy to a 7 year contract, while that money might be palatable in 2026, it could quickly grow not so in the upcoming years.  Obviously, if you could sign Burnes for 1/2 years you'd do it; but that isn't really an option.
    • What happened in the 2nd half w Adley is puzzling. I would say however that 17 mill in 2027 should be more like 10% of the payroll, so far more palatable than 20%.
    • You have to look at payroll in context though thinking 3 years in advance compared to what league average will be with revenue increasing.  This is league average payroll.   2019 112 million 2020 58 million but was Covid year. 2021 120 million 2022 134 million 2023  150 million 2024 156 million So league average is up 36 million 4 years.  If it keeps around that pace league average should be over 180 million so that 100 million would be little over half of league average payroll.
    • This is drastically underestimating Paredes
