I feel like this conversation about Adam is an evergreen topic that never goes away. We all agree that it would be nice if he could lay off breaking balls in the dirt, especially with two strikes. Where we disagree is that some people believe that he doesn't lay off those pitches because he is too stubborn to change his approach and would be a better player if he did change, other people believe that if he changed his approach it would hurt other aspects of his hitting, and yet other people believe that he's simply not capable of changing his approach because pitch recognition is a skill just like anything else and he has limitations in that area.

For me, I'm past the point of caring which faction is correct. Adam Jones has been playing a long time and he is who he is. He's been a very good player for us and I am done fantasizing about whether he could be better than he is. I'm happy to have him on the team despite whatever limitations he has. As alluded to in the thread title, he is a very consistent producer, and I'm happy with that.

I think it's funny that every time Jones gets on first he draws pickoff throws. I guess other teams do this because he bats leadoff. But if they looked at the stats he has 1 SB. Same as the fleet footed runners like Trumbo Davis, and Wieters. Lol.

I think a lot of that is trying to cut down on going from first to third. The O's don't steal bases, but they do take extra bases more than the average team.

Some folks have never liked his face forward approach to living and being a member of a team. I get it. But it certainly has nothing to do with the fact that he is an excellent, valuable, member of the team at an affordable price.

I don't think markakis had anywhere near the tools and gifts Adam has.

I think I worded my criticism poorly, I'm in no way shape or form saying Adam Ian a very good player.

I was simply saying he has the tools to be a top 25 maybe top 50 player but his approach keeps him from being that top tier played we all wish he was.

We can all draw our own conclusions as to the why.

Markakis, the guy that OPS'd .900 for us and had an MVP-caliber season for us? Did you know that in 2008, Markakis led the entire AL in WAR by B-R and was 4th by Fangraphs?

He aged really fast because of injuries. He had all the talent in the world when he was younger.
