Alvarez on Comcast Friday Night...

I dvr'd the first game. Now, I'm no scout and the sample size was small, but here's my impression...

Beckham - flat out looked silly on off-spead stuff. In fairness, he didn't get much to hit, but he was clearly sitting dead red. I think the long swing makes him have to cheat just a little bit to hit the fastball; that makes it tough to adjust to the slower stuff.

Alvarez - great balance in his stance, quite reminiscent of a certain #33 1b in Baltimore. He also didn't get much to hit but he has wicked bat speed. He seems like a little bit of a show man. He plays with arrogance. That turns me off, but it could just be a combination of his age and the fact that he's so clearly better than most others on the field.
