Yeah lot easier to tag runner that you can see in front of you then trying to see behind you and tag the plate. You try to hold bag but if you have to go out and get the ball the tag is what you want to do.

In the old days, there would have been a collision. Lot safer now to tag in that situation because in today's game it is less likely that the ball might be kicked out or knocked out of his glove.
