The strike zone has three dimensions. The pictures we see are two dimensional, so they are just showing you where the pitch was at one point in its travel through the zone. (I don't know how that point is selected.)

As I understand it, the technology that would be used to call balls and strikes would test in all three dimensions whether a pitch ever entered the strike zone on its trip across the plate. Its function would be to determine balls and strikes, not present a two-dimensional picture.

..and yet, they show a different location on different pitch traxs. I'll push it if it doesn't add up and it doesn't. Lasers are not perfect. If they were, there would be zero discrepancies between one pitch trax and another.

None of them ever line up the same.

Like MLB and ESPN and MASN ALL have the actual feed from the ballpark. Lasers in place. I've seen 200' long machine beds leveled to .0002 of an inch. With lasers.
