We have been in this position many times before, out of the playoffs, just finishing the season. What is their motivation to play hard? If you were management, what do you want to see? Young players getting time? Rising up even though it is meaningless?

Tanaka is sitting out, so they clearly aren't viewing this weekend as important.

I want the O's to win and the BoSox to sweep the BJ'S. it'll be a great weekend.

I imagine it is hard for them to bring the intensity, considering that they were just eliminated yesterday. But it will be a tough series.

Young players

Knock out the Orioles (would knocked out the Yankees)

They are awfully green. Not to jinx us, but it's fun to play against those greenhorn Yankees.

Green can be dangerous. Remember the Andino game. We had nothing to play for, but every player good enough to make it to MLB is a competitor and a professional. I like our team and I like our chances but nothing is certain in baseball.

There will be a number of different players in that Yankee starting lineup next year. You gotta think that many of them going out there this weekend realize that too. Hopefully they will just give it up. But I wouldn't count on it.

Only fun if the pitching does their job. Which Miley do we get? Miley against the Diamondbacks? Or Miley vs the Yankees.

Or can we hit enough against Severino and a bunch of no name relievers that we can win with either Miley?

The Yankees have a lot of young guys who are fighting for a spot on next year's roster. They're all going to come out and try to impress.

I honestly don't think they'll have any "Let's knock out the O's!" vibes rolling, because honestly it's very rare that teams ever find that kind of grit anymore. But don't discount their sheer youth and desire to further their careers.
