Korea’s manager indicated that the Orioles could steer Kim away from the WBC because they want the outfielder in camp for the duration of spring training.

“It’s really not up to us,” Kim In-sik said. “But I think Kim may be worried that he might get caught up in an awkward position with the club if he forces his way to play at the WBC.”

As for the Orioles' Kim, the manager said the player may also have to be with his major club for spring training since he will only be entering his second season and will need to further establish himself as an everyday player.

The outfielder spent the majority of the early 2016 season on the bench and made only 346 plate appearances in 95 games

I don't know why any baseball fan would hate the WBC. It's fun, competitive, exciting, and prideful. Aside from an obvious injury risk, which could happen in Spring training as well, this is a joy to watch. Let the man play for his country!

If I own an MLB team, I'm giving my players a bonus to NOT play in the WBC.  I'm assuming there's rules against that but I'd want to keep my players away from that as much as possible.

And double the bonus for pitchers refusing.

I love watching it.

I don't love the injury risk.

I like watching guys from other teams. Of course it would be unfortunate should Gary Sanchez tweak a hamstring. Honestly they should just keep it to minor league and college players. I would not let AJ or Manny play, or even Kim, if I had any control over it.

Korea always has a good team in the WBC.  It would be pretty cool to watch Kim lead that team.  It was really fun watching Schoop play for the Netherlands before he made it to the MLB.  I don't think it affects hitters as much as pitchers.  So far who do we have playing?

Machado- Dominican Team

Schoop- Netherlands

Kim- Korea

Jones- USA

Givens- USA (is that official?)

Because of situations exactly like this.  As a fan of a team, I want the players on the team dedicated to doing what they need to get ready to play for the team that season, not screwing off in meaningless exhibition games that present an injury risk, or could adversely effect their preparation for the upcoming season.

I think a lot of folks playing and watching would not agree with that sentiment.

I hate the WBC.  What a waste.  That is all.

You and I both. It screws with the up coming season and does anyone really care about these games at all? i mean, I don't know if I've ever watched more than an inning or two and that's only because I happened to stumble upon a game on TV and nothing else was on. I understand wanting to spread baseball's popularity around the globe, but maybe do this with minor leaguers or something and stay away from the major league players. Honestly, I'd rather they do it in November after the World Series if they are going to do it. At least if players get hurt they have all winter to be ready for next season.
