Projected to win 60 games.  Hammel's the #1 starter (of course).  Would anyone be willing to sign any of their non-Hammel starters (Fister, Wood, Colby Lewis, Jorge De La Rosa) to a minor league or small one year major league deal as a swingman?

I forgot about David Hernandez. I wouldn't mind a reunion there...trade Brach or Givens for an everyday RF or rotation depth and replace them with Hernandez.

I didn't. I'd like him back. He is now fully recovered from his Tommy John surgery.

Chris Coghlan an option?

He bats from the left side so maybe he's the LHH OF that Duquette keeps talking about. I still think the Orioles need a right-handed OF to help the platoon match-ups, but I'd love to take Coghlan in place of Flaherty on the team. Of course, that would never happen. Flaherty can play SS in a pinch, but I don't know if that's a needed skill on this roster. If you have Coghlan to back up 2B and 3B, you can use Trumbo to back up 1B and Machado to slide over to SS as a fill-in every once and a while. I would LOVE to have Coghlan on the team in place of Flaherty, but that seems unlikely.

Does DD keep talking about this?  I know Roch keeps writing it, but I haven't seen it anywhere else and I haven't heard DD say it since before the Smith and Trumbo acquisitions.  Has he kept saying it and I've missed it?  Has anyone else other than Roch quoted DD as saying it after we obtained Smith and Trumbo?  Yes, I know Roch says it nearly every day, but it is hard to understand how that is a need when looking at the current roster.  It surely seems that, assuming Rickard has one of the last two spots, the other one almost has to go to a right-handed hitter, preferably an outfielder with a glove.  The alternative would seem to require either that Kim play everyday, or that either Kim or Smith is traded.  I suppose another possibility would be signing Wieters, DFA Pena, and optioning Joseph.  Wieters/Castillo could then fill the DH spot vs. LHP, with Trumbo in RF.  That would leave room for another LH-hitting OF, but we already have Tavarez in that case, and I see it as a rather remote possibility, anyway.  Why do all that to try get a player that won't play very often?  I mean, I liked what Bourn brought to the Orioles last year, but I just don't see that there is room for him or someone like him on the team right now.

Really?  Hernandez has been BAD the past 3 years and he has been pitching in the weak NL.  He had a WHIP of 1.5 last year and people complained about Brach?  Hernandez would get crushed in the AL East.

Not that I've seen. In fact, Duquette just said a couple days ago that he wants to add a good defender in the outfield, but doesn't care whether he's right-handed or left-handed.

Quote

Duquette on his club’s need to be better defensively in the outfield: “I think we still have some work to do to upgrade our outfield defense. Our outfield defense wasn’t quite up to the level that it needs to be to be real solid in comparison to the rest of the league. So, we’ve got some more work to do in terms of getting some more speed in our outfield and then, also, I think there are some things we can do with our positioning to put ourselves in a better position to make a few more plays.”

“We’ve got our eye on a couple players that we hope to be able to sign and bring them to spring training. … We want to take a look at (Tavarez) in the spring and then we’ve got our eye out for some other outfielders that can help our club.”

Asked whether he was specifically targeting a left-handed hitter or right-handed hitter for that spot, Duquette responded: “No, not really. We’ve got pretty good depth and comparability. We just need a little bit more speed, I believe.
