Craig Gentry has a lifetime slugging PCT of .333.   Do the math.    Since Gentry offers more, presumably, in the way of baserunning, a .650 OPS would be acceptable, even with most of his AB's against LHP.     A respectable OPS for Rickard with most of his AB's against LHP's is probably in the low 700's at a minimum.

I think .650 is probably too low for Gentry.     .680ish should do it.    .710-.720 for Rickard, unless his defense moves into the strong plus category.

There is nothing respectable about a 650-700 OPS.   The player is in the lineup for a reason other than his OPS if he plays with that low an OPS.  They are playing for their OBP or defense.

Gentry seems like a poor man's Desmond Jennings (who is himself a poor man's Austin Jackson).  Still on a minor league deal, what's not to like?  And I'm glad DD dropped the "left handed outfielder" nonsense and got a guy who at least theoretically can get on base vs righties, and is known for strong defense.  Good to give Rickard some competition.  The lesser of the two can wait in the wings at AAA for an injury.

Exactly.  Gentry's main reason for being in the lineup would be for his defense.  However, he has to produce something offensively.   IMO, a .650-.700 OPS would be acceptable, assuming his baserunning and defensive skills have not deteriorated significantly.

Yeah, I don't care how good your defense is, you can't stick in the majors if you hit like Gentry has the past two seasons.

In 95 PA, Gentry posted a .403 OPS and a 14 OPS+.  Fourteen.  That is a massive cold streak for a regular hitter and a killer for a bench player.

He barely makes it if he posts his 2014 numbers: 258 PA, .608 OPS, 76 OPS+.  Basically Ryan Flaherty level offense.

If he can stay healthy and hit even a little bit (OPS of 396 and 413 from 2015-2016) he can be an asset.

How is this for crazy, if both him and Joseph make the team that O's will have two players that had a 413 OPS last season.

This.  We'll see how he does.
