The problem is having to rely on Verrett, Ynoa, Wilson or Lee. Hell, even Aquino.

Here's where I disagree. Those guys are decent depth guys coming into this season. Out of them, you should expect a few to have some ability help. The fact that they have almost all crapped the bed in AAA is almost mind boggling.

Now, the the fact that the organizations's drafting and development has failed to the point that these are the guys DD had to go out and get for depth is a valid point.

Agree in part only because it's seemed for years that no one, even Gausman or Tillman and the like, can pitch in Norfolk. There's something wrong at Norfolk.

Yup . Angels actually promoting Bridwell as a young gun. Funny.

Yeah but how do we know that they haven't been working on the weakest parts of their game when they go down there?  Almost treating AAA like ST.  It's not good for Norfolk but Aquino looked a lot better with his secondaries last night.

We have like 7 guys that are going to be out of options for next year.  Yes we may all think they aren't anything special but as soon as one of them makes a QS next year the board will freak out.  Out of options next year,

Jayson Aquino

Miguel Castro

Gabriel Ynoa

Mike Wright

Tyler Wilson

Logan Verrett

Vidal Nuno

We really need to find out what Aquino and Ynoa can do in the rotation.   They have the best stuff of them all.  And we need to find out what Castro and Wright can do in the pen.  Hopefully Wright can come back and get some innings down the stretch.

Ubaldo has more lives than a cat.

Right.   Let's assume he pitches poorly and is yanked from the rotation.    Something will occur that puts him right back in the rotation within 2-3 weeks.    That's just how he rolls.

Aquino impressed me in the Milwaukee start. He wasn't afraid to attack the zone. A couple things about Norfolk,

  • Big ballpark
  • Experimental OF defense (Pedro)
  • Yo-yo schedule. Bouncing up and down between a relief role in the MLB and starting in AAA.

Given all that. One of these guys should have posted a sub 4 ERA. Asher has, in limited starts.

Alvarez is no longer playing the OF.

Quite often, the most popular player in a football team's home games is the 2nd-string quarterback, particularly when the starter is struggling.

In baseball, pitchers showing a lot of promise at the AAA level are very popular when at least one starting pitcher on the Major League club is struggling ........ and right now, this is the guy.

........ Jayson Aquino would be the likely replacement if Jiménez comes out of the rotation. He held AAA-Pawtucket to one run over six innings on Thursday, and hes gained the trust of manager Buck Showalter. Also, no one else at AAA-Norfolk is beating down the door, or even giving it a light tap ........
