Tatis, Jr. was a Rookie of the Year candidate prior to his lower-back injury.

Manny talked the Padres management. into putting Tatis on the Opening Day roster rather than conserving his service time.    So now they’ve managed to blow a full year of service on a player who played 84 games, and the Padres are 56-64.     Great.

Now, I must say — Tatis certainly proved he was 100% ready for the majors.    4.2 rWAR in 84 games.

Yeah and he could have hurt his back in the MiLB and we'd never know the true potential.  That catch he made the other day at full extension may not have helped!

By which I mean, if they’d played the game of waiting two weeks to call him up, they’d still control him in 2025.    Now they won’t, and they only got 84 games from him in his first full season of service time, in a losing season.

I'd say odds are very good he signs an extension with the team.

I hope so.    I hope the goodwill they generated by not playing the service time game will outweigh the loss of leverage from losing the extra year of control.

Thankfully the Blue Jays gamed his service clock so they won't risk blowing a full year of service time.  ?

CoC, I can't figure out what that emoji meams but "thankfully " and the BJs should never be used in the same sentence. Cito sucks and so do all of them.
