The orioles could take a page from the Angels here. The Angels bit the bullet and saw that TJ surgery was needed right away. We would have done PRP injections, a delayed ST, then not had the guy get TJ until around the ASB. See Hunter Harvey.

A few things.

As you can see Ohtani has not decided to have surgery at this time.

You can also see that surgery has been recommended.

To the best of my knowledge the initial recommendations in both the Bundy and Harvey cases was to NOT have surgery.

As for being proactive with the surgery, well Ohtani had a grade 1 UCL sprain last December and didn't have surgery.

Doctors are saying Ohtani will be able to be a full time DH next year as he recovers from TJ.

Last night, with a damaged UCL:  4-4 with a walk, 2 HR and a SB.

He pretty much delivered the goods this year, other than missing time with injuries.    3.31 ERA, .946 OPS.     That’s outstanding.

Kopech news is brutal but I've read he was an injury waiting to happen. Sad reality of most rebuilds is prospects you are counting on get hurt or just flame out. To soon to write off Giolito but almost a 6 ERA this year with diminished stuff, Kopech out til 2020.
