What do Roch's comments on Mancini mean?

Mancini is blocked on this team and in my opinion, he has no future with the Orioles. I still believe it was awful decision making to pay Trumbo a big contract when you have a decent replacement in the minors ready to play for league minimum. I'd have loved to see that money go to an everyday corner OF. Mancini is playing to be traded right now. The better he does, the better player the Orioles can get in return. Obviously no blockbusters but maybe a useful SP depth piece?

This is exactly where I am. Him playing well right away is a good thing. Nothing against Mancini but he just has no path to the majors here. I hope we can trade him for something to help us and hopefully to get Trey a ML job somewhere else. He def deserves it.

Mancini is a likable guy and showed well in five games last year and has carried that over to this spring. That said, I don't think he necessarily deserves a Major League job right now. I get that Norfolk isn't hitter friendly, but he had a .775 OPS in 125 Triple-A games. That's fine given the ballpark, but that's not really knocking down the door, particularly for a first baseman. I'm not opposed to giving him an OF glove and seeing what he can do. I don't see the problem with keeping him this year as depth and if he blows down the door, he'll have better trade value (as I doubt he gets much of anything right now).

If you or Roch are relying on injuries to make room on the roster then either the injuries have to be Davis or Trumbo, or Trumbo is playing in the outfield.    Any injury to anyone else do not get Mancini an playing time and therefore probably does not lead to him being on the O's major league roster.

Maybe Trumbo in the OF isn't in the start of season plans, but an injury to Seth Smith or Kim would FORCE Trumbo to the outfield and make room for Mancini.

Not necessarily.   Jones  and Rickard could be full time outfielders if Kim or Smith are injured.  Then who ever is healthy, Kim or Smith,  could platoon with Gentry.     That could happen if Rickard puts up good numbers vs right-handed and left-handed pitching and if he plays good defense.

Then there is not reason for Trumbo to go to the outfield.  And no reason for Mancini be being called up because there would be no playing time for him.

The biggest reason for Trumbo to go to the outfield is when the O's play National Leagues teams in National League parks.  Then he has to play the outfield or sit.

Na. They would not get much at all.

I don't think we're grabbing a top-100 prospect or anything but do I think we could get a Mike Wright type of pitcher from another team? Maybe. That's good enough for me considering Mancini has absolutely no where to play on this team as constructed. Of course injuries change that but then there are other holes on the club other than emergency DH.

I think we could get something too. Maybe packaged with someone else. Bundled. :P

Rich classified his comments on MASN with Jim Hunter-did anyone listen? They were talking about the final roster spots. I live in DC and the reception cut out and I missed it after saying Macini likes starts in AAA. I think he said he likes Gentry and Rickards chances of making the club, but missed what was said after that..

I also heard he said Anding has an outside shot of being out Flaherty for an utility role.

I would LOVE that. Go Andino! Seriously, I want an Andino jersey!!!main_1-Robert-Andino-Game-Used-Orioles-J

I dont think Andino has any shot at beating out Flaherty unless the O's rid Flaherty's hefty $ 1.8M utility price tag.

Have no opinion on Mancini on 25 man right now, but Trumbo isnt needed in RF with Smith/Kim/Tavarez/Rickard. Its kind of a log jam in the OF and especially DH unless a trade is made.

Three of those four bat left-handed.

I hope Andino doesn't have a shot at beating out Flaherty unless he's got some magic that turned him into a better player.  He's OPS'd .570 in the majors since 2011, he had a stint in the Atlantic League where he didn't hit at all in 500 PAs, and last year's .746 OPS in AAA was by far his best performance in years.  And he was never a great fielder the last time he was in Baltimore.

Flaherty isn't great, but it's hard to see Andino being as good.
