Baysox Announce Opening Day Roster

BOWIE, Md. - The Bowie Baysox announce today the 2017 Opening Day Roster. The roster features 10 players who were drafted by the Orioles since 2014 and only three players new to the Orioles organization. Some of the top prospects in the Orioles organization will also begin the year in Bowie. Tanner Scott, Garrett Cleavinger, Jesus Liranzo and Cedric Mullins are all among MLB.com’s Top 20 Orioles prospects.

The starting rotation is expected to include RHP Brandon Barker, LHP John Means, RHP David Hess, LHP Tanner Scott and RHP Matthew Grimes. Each of them finished the 2016 season as part of the Baysox pitching staff with only Scott moving from the bullpen into the rotation for 2017.

This year’s Opening Night roster features 14 players who played with the Baysox in 2016, including two members of the Orioles 40-man roster in Jason Garcia and Jesus Liranzo. INF Garabez Rosa, who is the Baysox career leader in games played and hits also returns for a fifth season in Bowie after being named an Eastern League All-Star last season.

A total of six players on the Baysox 2017 roster will be making their Double-A debuts after making the leap from the lower levels of the Orioles organization: LHP Garrett Cleavinger, RHP Lucas Long, RHP Ryan Meisinger, INF Erick Salcedo, OF Cedric Mullins and OF DJ Stewart. The only newcomers to the organization are LHP Jed Bradley who briefly appeared with the Atlanta Braves in 2016, RHP Jefri Hernandez who was a Rule V pick (AAA Phase) from the Reds organization and Sean Coyle who was signed as a Minor League free agent after beginning his career with Boston.

The 2017 Bowie Baysox season is presented by Money One Federal Credit Union. The Baysox 2017 home opener will be Thursday, April 13 against the Harrisburg Senators at 6:35 p.m. Don’t miss out as the team prepares to celebrate its 25th Season. Single game tickets are now available at www.baysox.com.

Looks like Sean Coyle got pushed out of Norfolk  and down to Bowie.  He might be the everyday 2B.    On merit, it should probably be Salcedo at SS and Coyle at 2B with Rosa a super sub and Marin backup SS-2B.    Time to admit that Adrian Marin just can't hit.

His .180 or so average in the Arizona Fall League didn't help.

1st bat in AA

And the teams first at bat of the year - a very good sign.  He should get an at bat in the 2nd inning and hopefully hit another.

He don't need no stinking high A league.

Mullins grounds out to first. No longer has a perfect batting average.

What a bust. :leaving:

Well, give him a second chance - he trippled in at bat #5, so he's 4 for 5 - 2 singles, a triple, and a homer, so far.

Nice to see Marin have a good start.  He's still just 23, so it's not too late for him to learn how to hit.

Meisenger 3 very nice innings.

He will have a shot in the 9th at the least for a cycle. Unless they pull him sooner.
