More than 20 years ago, I read an article in the NY Daily News regarding Bernie Carbo, and his bout with alcoholism and drug addiction while he was a player from 1969 through 1980

In this film, Carbo talks about his childhood when his father cheated on his mother AND was an alcoholic. Carbo himself subsequently became a drug addict himself, which curtailed an otherwise very promising baseball career. 9 years after his baseball career ended (1989), his mother committed suiced. Two months later, his father died. A few years later, all three of Carbo's own daughters became drug addicts themsleves, and they all spent time in jail. His youngest daughter spent 5 years in prison for consiracy to manufacture meth. While Carbo's daughter was in prison, Carbo (by then, sober) and his wife became the legal guardians of all 3 of her kids (Carbo's grandkids.)

This is the story of 3 generations of drug addiction and alcoholism in the Carbo family.

Earl told me once, "Carbo is still out."

Carbo was not out nor safe because he never touched home plate, and Elrod Hendricks never tagged him ........ subsequently, Game 1 of the 1970 World Series has not yet been completed, and anything that has happened since then must be expunged from the record books until the Orioles and the Reds complete that game (and that World Series.)
