Pity the Fools - Os Win again

I watched the ESPN roundtable and they were saying something like: "every year, we say the Orioles don't have enough pitching, and here they are."

What I think is going on is that having a great starting rotation is overrated in today's game. Starters rarely go more than six innings these days. You need to have a solid bullpen, and you need to have offense. The Orioles have both.

It really is getting to be an annual rite. The pundits predict the Orioles to finish fourth or fifth, then scurry to explain why that isn't happening.

The only way they'll be right this year, IMO, is if the short starts (and Buck's rigidity in how he deploys the pen) burns out key relievers, leading to injuries or ineffectiveness. I think that if we can avoid that -- and injuries to key players, of course -- we're gonna be in this race.

That begs the question of the importance of front-line starters in the playoffs, but I don't even want to think about that for a long time.

How is his use of the pen rigid?
