DJ Stewart 2017

DJ Stewart has been struggling at Bowie.    Last night with Mullins going on the DL, Stewart was moved to the leadoff spot and responded by going 3 for 5 with a homer and 3 RBI.     He's still batting only .191, but hopefully this will get him on a roll.

Noticed that. Obviously way, way too early to tell if it'll work, but I bet the organization's idea of moving him to leadoff was the same as last year's jump to Frederick: present a new challenge to a struggling player to see if it sparks him. Let's hope it does.

I was pleasantly surprised to see DJ do so well. He was hitting the ball hard, even when he made an out. This was definitely the best I've seen him play. Hope he can keep it going!

3-4 tonight with 2 doubles.   Good to see.

But what's webbrick2010 going to complain about if Stewart actually hits well in AA?    (Somehow, I'm comfortable he'll find something else to glom on to.)

I'll bite on this one. I want to see consistency. That has been his issue.

He will go 3-4 and 2-3 for a 3 game stretch, then have a 2 for 20 slump before rebounding with a 10-40 and then going on a small streak.

Also...Defense.

I'm just having some fun.    Stewart's had a disappointing career so far, and I agree that a couple of hot days doesn't change that.    But players have their hot and cold spells, and the fact that Stewart started cold doesn't mean you write him off.    He was no more likely to bat .132 than Wynns is to hit .486.     Ring was hitting .190 until about a week ago, now he's over .400.   I enjoy watching the ebbs and flows of a long season.    It's the guys who fight their way through all the ups and downs who are the keepers.

Leading off too. I hope to see him in person in May. Hopefully Mullins will be back then too. Love going to Bowie games, just wish their food was better..but Chick Fila right around the corner...

The grill thing on the third base concourse is good. The new "healthy" thing on the first base concourse though...Not so much.

Stewart had a homer and a bases loaded triple tonight.    BA up to .257 and OPS up to .852.

11 of his 19 hits are for extra bases.  Starting to look like a power hitter.

I was at the game tonight.

Please don't be fooled by the stats.

His home run was a crusher, off a pitcher that was throwing meatballs all night (8 runs in the first 2 innings) and the triple was off the same pitcher. The center fielder misplayed it.

He DID have another deep shot later in the game that the center fielder was able to make a play on at the wall though.

He also had a near miss in the field. He misplayed the hell out of a fly ball, taking the wrong steps and angle and ended up having to dive at the last minute to make the catch.

I will say this though...He was putting good contact on the ball all night and his batting stance is more upright. He does have a little mechanism trigger with his back elbow that slows his swing down a bit, which might be helping.

Thanks, L_o_J.     I'm not ready to install Stewart as a top 10 prospect, but I'll take this over the .132 batting average he was sporting a week or so ago.

Another big day for DJ. Is he a prospect? :noidea:

Sure he's a prospect.  Not a very good one IMO despite the recent hot streak.

I think he could put up Kim type numbers for 6+ years. There is value in that. .900 OPS right now.
