Mendoza Line

Mario Mendoza awoke this am and smiled.  I know, it's a marathon and not a sprint.  But so nice for MM to see another MM atop his list!  (sarcasm emoticon ;))

Machado - .188  (has hit into some bad luck with the BABIP)

Cal Joseph - .111

JJ Hardy - .200

Mark Trumbo - .203 * (has some work to do but still)

Joseph looks done at the plate. He needs to realize that he does not have opposite field home run power. Maybe in Bowie Caleb. Two years of WTP balls, at best, flying out to RF.

Hardy is a pro. He'll somehow have his avg up around .250 by the end of the year. He also plays great defense and we turn a ton of double plays. Hardy lost his power last year. Now he has 14k and 1BB this season. That's third highest on the team.  In his defense he's hit in front of the P in 3 games and Caleb in 4.

Trumbo is scary because he is a notorious fast starter. What's a season or his going to look like without a big 1st half?

Edit:  Left Manny out. He'll be fine. Keep Smith and Jones in front of him and he will start to pile up the numbers.

I'm not worried about the "Trumbo is usually a fast starter" logic.    Every split has its exceptions.    For example, Trumbo had always been much better vs. LHP than RHP until last year, when he was the opposite.    Trumbo will have his hot streaks and by year's end he'll be about where we expected.   Of course, I wasn't expecting him to hit as well as last year, and his slow start increases the odds against replicating last season.

Hardy will be bad but team leader. He has been ok in the field. Manny will be fine. Might not be as good as last year. Harper had a down year for him last year. Trumbo will be an average player who should not be in the field. Not a big walk guy either.

Trumbo looks lost. I just don't see the point of Trumbo when we could have had Mancini + Alvarez for a fraction of the cost and no years.

Not too worried about Manny - he is hitting hard outs and drawing walks.

Hardy's 1st pitch grounder into the drawn in shift last night was a real dagger. Then again, he won the game in Cincinnati the other night. I don't expect much from him these days but it would be nice if he could get up to .260. Last year he did it with a lot of opposite field base hits. At least he looks healthy.

I don't expect much from Joseph but would it kill him to come up with a big base hit?

Again, Why isn't Mancicni playing. This makes Zero Sense. Buck is taking him right out of a hot streak. Totally STUPID.

Two of our Mendoza's (Manny Machado and Mark Trumbo) exploded on offense tonight.

Unfortunately, their contributions (and the Orioles' 11 runs) were not enough to secure an Orioles victory.

(MAY 6th)

Manny Machado just hit his 8th home run of the season.

Chris Davis reached safely in all 4 of his plate appearances last night.

Let's go, Orioles.
