Today's call up requires a 40 man roster move

Buck said last night at the post game pressor that the O's will call up a pitcher today.  Ynoa will be optioned.   But who comes up?   None of the players on the 40 man roster are eli eligible  and/or likely.   Paul Fry is the next man up but is not available until tomorrow.    Chris Lee threw 83 pitches on the 3rd. He should not be available.     Jimmy Yacabonis or Scott McGough seems likely call ups, but neither is on the 40 man roster.    I am guessing that Andrew Faulkner is vulnerable.

Britton going to the DL will not affect the 40 man roster. It may cause another call up probably of Fry tomorrow if the DL is the path they take with Britton.

I don't think they have to make a 40 man move.  Here's what I wrote in another thread:

Buck talked about holding someone back in Norfolk last night.  He was praising Ron Johnson and the organizational communication.  My guess, based on box scores, is that he was referring to Verrett.  I wouldn't be surprised if he's the one to replace Britton.

Keep Ynoa up today in case you need Ubaldo out of the bullpen.  If you don't need Ubaldo tonight, send Ynoa down for Britton.

Once Tillman is up, they should address the 14 position players.  I'd send Mancini down to give him steady ABs and reps in RF.

You are right.    I forgot that if Britton is put on the DL they can call up someone that has not been down for 10 days.

To open a 40 man spot:

1. Put Santander on the 60 day DL.

2. DFA one of Faulkner, Castro, Fry etc....

3  DFA Gentry

Moves to open up 25 man roster spots:

1.  DL Britton

2. DL Ynoa

3. Send down Rickard or Mancini

4. DFA Gentry

I think you'll see us put Santander on the 60 day DL. Put Britton and Ynoa on the 10 day DL. Call up Asher. Add Yacabonis to the 40 man and call him up.

Did Ynoa come out of last nights game injured? If not, I think it would be hard to sell an injury on him.

He grabbed his hamstring. He stayed in but it might be a way to sell it.

In the 7th I think, he grabbed his leg during a warm up and Joseph called everyone out to the mound. He stayed in and there was nothing more to it but it does plant the seeds.

Buck mentioned Ynoa to the DL with his hamstring as a possibility in the post game press conference.  10 day DL for Ynoa isn't a bad thing.  I think he could even "rehab" in AAA while on the ten day DL.  So it likely wouldn't cause him to miss time.  Just a roster manipulating thing.

Plus he gets paid at the MLB rate, so I'm sure he doesn't mind. Beats being optioned.

Do you think the Orioles will send Ynoa down tomorrow when Tillman comes back? That would certainly make sense to me.

I think it's likely.  They don't have to send him down today because he could start for Jimenez if they need to use him tonight.  If they don't, then Ynoa can go down.

    • We have gone over this repeatedly. Hicks' salary through 2025 is locked in based on his contract with the Yankees. Unless someone wants to pay him more than the 9.5M per year his Yankee contract will pay, he will simply sign for the minimum and the remainder of the 9.5M per year will be paid by the Yankees.
    • I mean I do agree with the many people who say here that if Cowser or Kjerstad or some other hitter emerges as good or better than Santander, then yes of course it makes sense to trade him.   But I just don't trust prospect rankings.  Don't assume a player will be as good as high as he ranked until he proves it over a period of time.  In 2016 Jorge Mateo was the Yankees top prospect, just ahead of Aaron Judge -- just to name one example.  For this reason I think Santander hangs around a little awhile -- unless the O's trade for or sign a replacement outfield bat prior to the season -- in addition to trading Santander.
    • But the Rays did lock up some of their best hitters -- mainly Evan Longoria and Wander Franco.  I know Santander is not at that level, but I think there's a good chance Santander is with the team to start next season.  I think it's a mistake to assume someone is ready to take over for him until he proves it.  If not then trade for or sign someone who is -- if he must be traded now or pretty soon.  I don't trust prospect rankings.  In 2016 Jorge Mateo was the Yankees top prospect, just ahead of Aaron Judge.   Also, the Orioles don't really have the pitching in the minors the way the Rays always seem to.  Can't imagine Means or any decent pitcher getting traded for that reason.  And for a long time the Rays weren't a very good hitting team, which I think is a big reason the Rays never tried to lock up their position players until guys like Evan Longoria started to emerge, though there may be a bit more to it than that.
    • 49ers QB Brock Purdy had UCL repair with InternalBrace. Here’a a summary comparing the two. I’m sure Bautista and his medical team will closely consider the best course for his circumstance.    https://www.armoredheat.com/armored-heat-blog/tommy-john-vs-ucl-repair
    • Building on some of the other posts, the ‘83 Orioles lost 5 of their last 7, giving up 40 runs in those seven.  In 9 postseason games they gave up 12 total runs. I have no idea if the O’s bats will wake up or struggle.  I have no idea if the bullpen can get tough outs without a weapon like Bautista available.  And I have no idea how the starters will perform in the intensity of the postseason.   But unlike fans of 22 other teams next Saturday we can find out!
    • To me, just winning the AL East division was a great accomplishment in itself!
