I never really understood the firing of Torre.

That said I have been expecting the disintergration of their pitching staff for several years now. Perhaps that is happening finally.

Gammons has suggested that teams that depended heavily on Veterans might experience a significant drop off in production due to the Mitchell Report and suspending guys on proof other than a burnt urine test.

Well it was obvious he wasnt wanted. They even suggested he take a pay cut. I honestly feel they forced him out the door. That in my book is "firing" in result if not in "fact".

A pay cut with incentives to make it into a raise. In essence, they were saying "Joe, we're really not sure (after 10 plus years...) if you're a good manager or not. So this year we're going to make you earn your money, instead of this loafing and lolligagging your way into the playoffs every year."

A lot of people saw it as an insult. A lot of people vehemently disagreed that it was an insult. I'm squarely in the insult camp.
