There is something to be said with taking this strategy.  With the second wildcard, there are fewer teams willing to be sellers.  If you are a team trying to retool/rebuild, you can demand a premium because there are more buyers then sellers.

I'm just thinking of Boston a couple years ago with Miller. (I'm actually surprised they didn't try to resign him) That trade, along with some of their other signings is the model we should be going for.
