Adeiny Hechavarria

They are tied for last place in late June and it definitely doesn't feel like they have hit bottom. The organization is incompetent, reckless, and completely out of touch if they are buyers. I sure hope this report is very wrong.

I think they are buyers unless they are five plus games out of the wild-card race.

Do you think having Hechavarria would make a difference?  This team is so poorly contructed...

I think he could make a 1-win difference, supposing he's a 1-win player, and that with Hardy's injury, we can expect 1-win BELOW replacement level SS performance from what we have now.  Half a season of 2-win delta.

It's looking a lot like the bar for the 5th best AL record could land a bit lower in the 80's than usual, and this team isn't going to stop as long as it hovers around .500 the next few weeks.  Selling only comes into play with another disastrous month.

From a strategic rooting perspective, if we aren't already there it's close to time to cut over to hoping the Red Sox and Yankees win against the AL's middle class on a day to day basis.

Career .627 OPS. Injury concerns. $4.3 million salary. Will go up to $6 million next year.

Thats a .627 OPS with triples and Intentional walks from batting 8th in front of the SP.  Neither one of those things are going to happen with us.

This is the type of move that has gotten us here.  Instead of bleeding our assets on small moves we should make moves for only top quality.

I say move Manny to SS. Try Dosch at 3rd. Or trade for a 3B.

This would be Parra 2.0.

You are probably right, but if they are buyers when sitting at or below .500, looking up at three teams in their own division, and basically the entire starting pitching staff is struggling, then they are dumb. "They" being whoever ultimately makes or pushes that call. I know it's a long season, yada yada, but the starting pitching is atrocious and there's nothing special about the offense and defense. Factor in the status of the minor league system and trading for players for a playoff run this year would be malpractice. Given the contract status of Machado et al., this was the year. Yes, the Orioles still have a mathematical possibility to make the playoffs and even get lucky in the playoffs, but the pitching staff implosion means that there is really only one foresighted, reasonable decision. The Orioles can't gamble on the tiny chance that they make the playoffs and make some noise. Of course that doesn't mean the Orioles will make the decision/take that route. Angelos vetoed timely rebuilding plans in the past. I hope they are smarter this time.  If they want to hold pat and see if Manny and others value is higher in the offseason, then ok. But for goodness sake don't trade any valuable young players to incrementally increase the chances of making of the playoffs this year.

And he will do any rebuild now? Forget it.

Maybe you missed the part where I said "You are probably right". Unfortunately I almost expect them to do something dumb. But if they do then they deserve all the grief they will get and then some.
