Orioles Prospect Hunter Harvey: First Outing After Tommy John Surgery Was 'So Much Fun'

After undergoing Tommy John surgery in July 2016, Orioles prospect Hunter Harvey is happy to be back on track. "The last couple years, every time I threw a pitch, it hurt. It's good to be back on the mound and not feel pain."

2 IP, 3 H, 4 K's today.   I think he's done with the GCL and will pitch at Aberdeen next week.

They want to get him to Delmarva by season's end.  With his current plan of pitching once per week, that leaves 4 or possibly 5 more appearances.  So yeah, maybe 2 or 3 at ABD, then 2-3 at DEL, depending on how it all shakes out.

Post here or PM me if you are going.  I believe I am about 75 minutes away - near Newark, NJ.  Haven't been up to Hudson Valley.  Had thought it was closer, but might head out there for one game to see Harvey and the stadium.

OK, I will.

At the moment, Harvey is pitching once a week, on Wednesday ........ so the following are possibilities if that routine schedule continues:

@ BROOKLYN CYCLONES: ))ll)l..............))) Wednesday, August 16th

@ HUDSON VALLEY RENEGADES: ))lllll... Wednesday, September 6th

WIth the current schedule, it looks as if he would see:

Wednesday 8/9 - Aberdeen Vs. Mahoning Valley

Wednesday 8/16 - Aberdeen @ Brooklyn

Then possibly onto Delmarva, Correct?

    • To be fair, for this team it's a 5-game playoff loss streak. They had nothing to do with the previous 5 losses. In 2014 they ran into a very talented and hot team in the ALCS. Last year, they lost to the eventual WS champions. In 2016 it was the Britton non-usage fiasco. Each one has their own set of circumstances. We will see how far KC goes this year, but who's to say they aren't last year's Rangers? If they are, then I will say that the Orioles have been unlucky in whom they have drawn in the playoffs.
    • There's no need to throw most of our guys strikes.  Adley used to be that guy where you had to throw him strikes or else he'd be a threat to get on base but between his old man back and his smokeshow girlfriend, that ability has vanished. I was hoping we were past the teams of Adam Jones and Mark Trumbo and guys who'd just swing at everything and post low OBPs and offenses that'd only score if they were homering, but here we are. Someone was saying last night that the Royals pitching wasn't impressive, I disagreed.  They obviously had good scouting and knew that a guy like Tony would chase high out of the zone and they pitched him that way almost exclusively.  I'm sure everyone knows that Mountcastle will swing at a low and outside slider and expand the zone with two strikes.  No, the Royals did a fantastic job of pitching to our swing happy dickheads, they knew exactly what to do...they had a game plan and they executed it perfectly.
    • They are clearly more talented. That’s why they won more games with more significant injuries. Plenty of players over OPS+100 and that’s with slumps.    This series was about the Orioles, not the Royals.
    • I know oh the pain knowing he could of been an Oriole. I would trade Adley and Henderson straight up for Witt knowing how great a player he is and the added addition to him being signed for the next decade.
    • The moneyball analytical approach might get you a playoff series win or two, but more often than not the teams that spend end up in the WS. I know there are some outliers like AZ last year, but most WS teams have a larger payroll.
    • It better not be. I will be willing to bet this team WILL NOT be back in the playoffs if Elias doesn't make significant improvements on this team and then as Tony has said now he is on the chopping block if this team takes a step back .
    • Showalter had a 5 game playoff losing streak but he also won the 2012 WC game, lost in 5 games in an extremely close ALDS as the underdog, and swept the 2014 ALDS before that streak. He also never lost to a team in the playoffs that was sub .500 if you take out their record against the worst team of all time.  The injuries were brutal and the offense sucked. That’s not on Hyde. But again, the team seemed mentally broken the last 3 months and never recovered. I really don’t care if he stays or is gone, but what happens if they start next year the same way they finished last year? Or what happens if they miss the playoffs or make them and completely flop again? You can’t just waste another year. Not saying bringing him back would be a waste. You just hope that this time next year, there’s no questioning if they should have made a change.
