Who was the guy Jordan tried to sign but couldn't?

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to remember, I think it was two years ago, there was a college pitcher Jordan drafted. He was a 5th-rounder or so who had dropped due to signability, wanted about $1 mm to sign, Jordan taked to him a long time but decided he wasn't worth the money. Anyone recall who that was, and whatever happened to the guy?

Edit: It was Anthony Watson (17th round, 2006, U. of Nebraska).

I bring this up because of the hand-wringing over Melville. There was a lot of hand-wringing over Watson at the time ("no excuse" not to sign him, etc.), but I think history has shown Jordan made the right call there. He was being touted as a possible 1st/2nd round talent, but even after he waited a year, the Pirates drafted him in the 9th round.
