That's interesting.    He's had a very solid year, but this still surprises me a bit.    I guess what it boils down to is he had the best year of anyone who spent the whole year in the Carolina League. He leads in HR (24, nobody else has more than 18), is a close second in RBI, and has the highest OPS (.849) of any player who played more than 88 games (there are 7 guys who played 50-88 games ahead of him, including Hays and Mountcastle).

Overall he's had a breakout year and it'll be interesting to see if he can build on his success in AA next year.

I'm sure spending the entire  year there had something to do with it, as Hays is going to be the Orioles Minor League Player of the Year. Though Mountcastle is still eligible to win the batting title.

Either way, I look forward to Rifaela in Bowie next season and hope he can continue his success. Bowie should be a really strong team next year too.

Is this a legitimate prospect or somebody from parts unknown pushing 30 something?

He's of prospect age, he's a fringe guy to me, probably 20-30 range of O's prospects. He needs to improve swing mechanics and pitch recognition to profile as a big leaguer.  I'll probably update the scouting report I did earlier in the season to see if he's made improvements in those areas.

I love the Rif! I believe he'll help the O's at some point. What a surprise this is. I was not anticipating he'd be in contention for such an award, congratulations to him!

Interesting to see that Rifaela is from Curaçao.    We've done well down there.

They mentioned during tonight's game that after yesterday's afternoon game, Jonathan Schoop went to Frederick to watch his countryman play.     He's apparently been something of a mentor to Rifaela.    That's pretty cool.
