Game Five War of Attrition: Shades of the 1976 Triple Overtime Game 5 (NBA Finals)

In terms of attrition/surviving and prevailing, the 13-12, 10-inning baseball game that just ended was reminiscent of Game Five of the 1976 NBA Finals, in which the Celtics won a triple-overtime contest over the Suns by a score of 128-126.

Both teams were physically and emotionally exhausted after that game ...... Jo-Jo White was LITERALLY SITTING DOWN at mid-court when his teammate (Glenn McDonald) was shooting free throws in the final 36 seconds of the 3rd overtime ...... but at least the Celtics got the win, which gave them a 3 games to 2 lead with the series heading back to Phoenix for Game Six.

(ONE YEAR LATER)

An even bigger war of attrition occurred in this World Series game ........ 18 innings, and 561 pitches thrown by the 2 teams combined.

I dont really like these baseball-basketball analogies. Theyre very different sports.

Different sports (even very different sports) have common threads.

I don't think that the fact that they are different sports (even very different sports) ought to make analogies between the two of them mutually exclusive.
