Orioles offseason simulation

This looked like a great deal of offseason fun from the RoyalsReview site...they assigned all 30 teams to fake GMs who then ran an online GM meetings and came out with a simulation of offseason deals, trades and signings.   Suffice to say, it is all complete fantasy, but it is fun reading the steps that the Royals guy took in trying to put together a 2018 team and beyond.

Here is the link to the ground rules, discussion, format...etc.

And here is a link as to the fake GM's complete thought processes, deals that didn't go through and his defending his actions as he went through the sim with the Orioles..... fake GM who would have given Angelos a stroke.   lol.

Here is a summary of what this guy did in discussions with the other 29 fake GMs who participated....

  • Declined options on JJ Hardy and Wade Miley
  • Traded Cedric Mullins and Yefry Ramirez to the Diamondbacks for Patrick Corbin

LOL.  Doesn't look like realism is a goal of this exercise.

Definitely, but it feels good to just get out of the "what's possible" box and really just put it out there.    I saw on a Cardinals board the trade suggestion of Michael Wacha for Austin Hays and Mychal Givens...  it made me laugh out loud, but this is what is seen from the outside looking in at our organizational mess.

Where does this take place Fantasy Land?  Could it be a tad realistic.  The Orioles aren't going to make that many moves.  And you're dreaming if you think Trumbo and Chris Davis can both get traded.  O's would never pay Yu Darvish that much money.  And with his injury history and turning 32 years old next season I wouldn't sign him.

It is not my simulation and it has nothing to do with being realistic.  It is a fantasy simulation.   That was pretty clear in my opening post.   It is not meant to be what the Orioles will do, it is one baseball guy's activity with 29 others in a fantasy weekend that was meant to simulate a team's offseason.     In this simulation,  Trumbo and Chris Davis WERE both traded to other fake GMs of other teams for salary dump returns...read the complete explanation of the fantasy results if you want... but get out of the idea that this is some type of prediction as to what might actually happen.

Smoke a little bit of what they're smoking.  Things will snap right into focus.   O.o

Here is my best shot at a 25 man from that simulation...

Chacin  SP

Valencia Bench

Darvish SP

Brantley RF/Bench

Belt 1B

Cabrera DH

Corbin SP

Bundy SP

Gausman SP

Machado 3B

Schoop 2B

Mancini LF

Hildenburger RP

Beckham SS

Hays Bench/RF

O’Day RP

Brach RP

Bleier RP

Castro RP

Ynoa RP

Jones CF

Sisco C

Joseph C

Wilkerson Utilty

Long/Yacabonis/Hart/Crichton Last RP spot

Not realistic and mortgages the future, but puts a really strong team on the field for 2018.

Which he said was his intent going in was all in to win for 2018, rather than a rebuild, but if you look at his analysis, really, the costs through 2023 would still leave enough flexibility even to extend Manny.

Darvish, Bundy, Gausman, Corbin and Chacin would be strong.  Cabrera at DH rather than Trumbo, Brandon Belt rather than Davis and Brantley in the OF

But, it is just a fantasy...of course.

That Britton + Bishop to the Yankees trade would be an awesome deal for the Orioles, he fleeced the Yankees there.
