Maryland vs Stony Brook

It has begun!  And BTN is fleecing you to see the game.  Didn't expect to be home at 7pm, but plans changed and I was.  So, try to find the MD game.  No where to be found on cable.  Google what's up....oh the only way to see it is through a BTN plus online subscription you say?  Ok, how much?   $10 for 30 days...I guess so.

Subscribe and no video for 10 minutes.  Try three browsers, no work.  Reboot, no luck.  Try the BTN support chat...no response, but video finally starts around 720pm.  Sounds good....except...no sound!   Try chat again, 15min later a rep says, yea we are working on the issue.  Sound never came on.  You ever try watching basketball in silence?  The BBC makes a point of not saying a thing during tennis while they players are hitting the ball, its really quite enjoyable, but you still hear the players and the sounds.  Basketball on the other hand happens so fast, you really need the broadcast, I never realized how much.  Player substitutions, new player profiles, fouls explained, etc...etc...   Made watching the game thoroughly un-enjoyable.  Plus I am typing this while the game is finishing up (Stony brook made a late run, but Turg called a timeout and shut that down quick) and keep forgetting to check back....why...because there is no sound!   I am going to try hard to get my money back.  Ok, rant over.

From what I could see (not hear)...MD looks like they all need some work.  Sloppy at times, but effective.  Checko looked good, so hope he can stay healthy.  JJ looked great, one move I saw in the second half with a huge burst of speed to the basket was just totally awesome.  Cowan looked under control.  Bender looked terrible (and I thought he really improved late last year).  Huerter was Huerter, which is a good thing.  Fernando looked impressive at times.

Anyone else waste some money and watch the game?  Thoughts?

Won by 15.  Just looking at the box score: Justin Jackson did some serious work on the boards (14).  Bruno Fernando wasn't afraid to shoot.  5 of 10 shooting in only 13 minutes.

2 of 14 from 3.  Yikes!  Should be better days with Huerter and Jackson both being solid outside shooters.  Wiley can hit at times too. Cowan was really shaky from 3 last year, so was hoping he could show some improvement there.

Nickens has really fallen out of favor since his freshman year.  Played just five minutes.  Fernando, Wiley, and Morsell look like your primary bench guys.  Maybe Fernando replaces Bender in the starting lineup at some point.

Is Huerter the backup PG now (as well as the starting SG)?  Doesn't look like we have any other PG on the roster with Trimble gone and Brantley transferring.

I would think Wiley would be the back up point but either way that's a good point?  Sorry.   Hopefully Cowen stays healthy and productive!

Didnt realize they shot that bad from behind the arc, that definitely has to improve.

Yeah, this is a good question. Shame Brantley transferred. Remember a few years ago we had nothing behind Melo and just getting the ball up court was an issue when he'd take a breather.

We're just not a good 3 point shooting team. Nickens and Wiley simply aren't good. Jackson gets in a good shooting grooves and Huerter is solid but I would try to force guys to either slash to the hoop or feed the bigs. Stick to high % shots.

Fernando should definitely replace Bender in short order. I liked what I saw from the bigs but competition level wasn't great in this game so hard to tell. Definitely nice to see some aggression from a big though after Dodd.
