Believe?

I know Duquette talks in riddles and code but on MLB, when asked directly by Smoltz about his rotation options, he said:

We will be looking for older veterans and bounce back candidates, as well as internal options to fill out the rotation.  Smoltz reminded him that the O's rotation was the WORST in baseball in 2017.

IF that's true, we would be heading for another last place finish.

Personally, I don't believe it, but his past certainly backs this type of "improvement".

I believe it. Not that older vets and bounce back guys would be DD's first choices, but they might be all that's available within the owner and organizational constraints.

It would baffle me to think that this way of thinking would even be considered again.

DD, if you're reading this. Go get Friers, Garcia and CC. If you want another rotation option, go for Cashner or some one from Korea, Taiwan or Japan. Trade Trumbo and cash for Markakis to get a LH bat who can play in LF and maybe RF.

Why do you think DD, and more importantly, his boss, would ever change?

Hope I guess. The feeling of KNOWING we are a 75 win team, not just thinking we are. Playing the same game have the last few years, confirms that.

I’m not going to overreact to anything DD says.     However, if he’s been instructed to go cheap on the pitching, we may as well start the rebuild.

Except it seems unlikely they will trade Machado, which would be step one of any rebuild plan.

Sure, but they won't.

They will sell off some assets for pennies on the dollar at the deadline and collect a pick for Machado.

And someone will start a poll about how long it will be until the O's have another winning season.
