J.J. Putz left Wednesday's game in the ninth inning with an undisclosed injury.

It wasn't clear what was wrong, but Putz had nothing on the last fastball he threw, suggesting that his arm might have been bothering him. It'd be a big loss for the Mariners, but they haven't had the real J.J. Putz at any point during the season anyway. Brandon Morrow would likely replace him in the closer's role. He took over in the ninth today.

Just from that blurb it sounds like a classic case of a guy needing Tommy John. On the bright side, this seems like a good year for him to get it out of the way while his team is grossly underperforming anyway. I doubt they become buyers at all this year. More likely they'll be looking to do what we're doing.

Phillies would love to have him, but unfortunately their farm system is pretty bad at the moment.
