Perfect time for Angelos to sell the team?

- GM contract expiring

- Manager contract exoiribg

- Committed payroll about to drop significantly

A new owner would have complete flexibility to take the club in any direction.

Thoughts?

(Of course, to many O’s fans, any time is the perfect time for Angelos to sell.    But it seems to me the team is well-positioned for a sale.

What does the MASN lawsuit uncertainty do to the team's value?

Doesn’t help, but obviously the value will get worse if the outcome of the second arbitration is similar to the first, or worse.   Uncertainty about whether an outcome will be good or bad is better than the certainty of a bad outcome.

I think any buyer would assume the worst, though. Peter is not the type to sell low.

I'm all in on that happening. If it were only happening.

I have been as critical of Potter as anyone, but I refuse to be just completely wrapped up in the idea that Angelos is the cause of every loss we have ever had and that nothing can ever improve.  We just went through 2012-2016 winning more games than anyone in the AL with the same owner.

Yes, I would love a change...which is going to happen sooner rather than later as it does to all men on this earth...and I have no idea what kind of owner John Angelos will be. Maybe he will be outstanding, who knows?   If they sell, the fantasy would be that the new owner would be better, although there are plenty of idiot billionaires.  But, yes, I would love to see a new regime top to bottom.   And I hope they change leagues or division.

I’m not sure the timing of manager and GM contracts mean anything to prospective buyers and sellers of major sports teams. Their salaries are pennies relative to the sales price and other related expenses.

From my perspective, any time would be perfect.

From what I imagine to be Angelos's perspective, I see two good reasons not to sell now. One, mentioned by others, is that a buyer is unlikely to pay anything for the possibility of a  better rights-fee outcome for MASN. The second is that the possibility of repealing the federal estate tax presents, IMO, potentially presents an opportunity for Angelos to pass his majority interest on to his sons without requiring them a sell off a big chunk of that interest to raise cash needed to operate the team.

I'd be worried that a buyer would pack the team off to Montreal or Portland. Irsay II?

Eh, I wouldn’t worry about that, MLB want to expand and they’d never let a team that’s already in a decent market move. If any team moves it’s going to be Tampa Bay.

Is it a decent market with the Gnats? Take away MASN....
